Whoever is in charge of the Wendy's Twitter account is a social media genius. They've repeatedly gone viral for roasting customers and competitors, and now, they have the most retweeted tweet in history.
Last month, Twitter user Carter Wilkerson asked Wendy's how many retweets it would take for a year of free chicken nuggets. Wendy's replied with the outrageous goal of 18 million tweets, which was pretty ambitious considering that the most retweeted tweet in history at the time was Ellen DeGeneres' Oscar selfie, with 3.2 million.
After the post went viral, Wendy's decided to lower the goal a little bit. If Wilkerson could beat Ellen's record, he'd get his nuggets, and the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption would get $100,000.
That goal was made a little more difficult when Ellen started a social media war with Wilkerson, calling on anyone retweeting his tweet to also retweet hers. But despite the challenge, Wilkerson finally achieved the impossible early this morning.
Look at all those retweets. And yes, Wendy's is keeping their end of the deal. Most importantly, Wilkerson will receive his nuggets.
But the Dave Thomas Foundation for Adoption will also receive a sizable donation.
Twitter is unsurprisingly excited about witnessing this piece of social media history.
Let's clear a spot on Mount Rushmore for this guy.
