The 2020 Emmy awards gave Schitt's Creek's final season a standing ovation. The comedy sitcom took home nine awards — breaking the previous record for most Emmys won in one night. Understandably, fans were overjoyed at the show's sendoff, but they're not quite ready to say goodbye to the Rose family just yet.

In a speech after the awards, co-creator Dan Levy talked about the potential of a much-rumored Schitt's Creek movie. Could we be seeing our favorite family hit the big screen sometime soon?

Dan Levy admitted he's open to a 'Schitt's Creek' movie.

Out of 15 nominations, Schitt's Creek took home more than half of the awards it was nominated for, sweeping the comedy category. The Canadian show won awards for Best Lead Actress and Lead Actor (to Catherine O'Hara and Eugene Levy), Best Supporting Actor and Supporting Actress (to Dan and Annie Murphy), as well as Outstanding Comedy Series, Writing, Directing, and Casting, as well as one more award for Outstanding Contemporary Costumes.

Needless to say, if you hadn't considered watching Schitt's Creek before the Emmy's, it's probably on your to-be-watched list now.

After the Emmy Awards, co-creator and supporting actor Dan talked about the possibility of bringing the Rose family back to the screen in a movie spinoff, something that's been talked about among fans for a long time.

"Oh my gosh. Here’s the thing: Some people have been asking that," he said of a potential film, according to People. And while he went on to say that he's not opposed to the idea, Dan also admitted that he's really partially to the series' current finale, which he felt was "the best way we could’ve ever ended the show."

"If there is an idea that pops into my head and worthy of these wonderful people, it has to be really freaking good at this point," he continued. "This is a really nice way of saying goodbye. Fingers crossed that we get a really good idea coming into our heads soon.

"I would love to work with these beautiful people again," he added, complimenting his co-stars. "This has been the most incredible experience."

What would a 'Schitt's Creek' movie look like?

While it's clear that there are no current plans for a movie spinoff to hit theaters (or your favorite streaming service) any time soon, the idea is not off the table — which leads fans to wonder what a Schitt's Creek movie could look like.

Dan was very clear that a Schitt's Creek movie would have to come from a "really good idea" if he wants to do the show justice, so it's likely a movie would have to give the Rose family and new and creative storyline.

Considering how well the series wrapped up, that might be harder to accomplish than it seems! It's likely if we ever see a Schitt's Creek movie, it'll be a couple of years before we see what kind of spinoff Dan is able to cook up.

If you haven't already binged Schitt's Creek, you can check your local listings to see when it airs or watch the entire series on Netflix.
