Mimes get a bad rap. It's an artform a lot of people make fun of, but it's not easy manipulating your body to make it look like you're interacting with an invisible object. Often, it also involves huge acts of strength, with the mime using isometric movements to make it appear they are blowing in the wind. But this is definitely the most gravity-defying feat we've seen.
Twitter user and varsity cheerleader @arielo1220 posted a video of herself performing a trick that seems to violate the laws of physics, in which she steps on an "invisible box." It doesn't sound like much, but it is if you watch it, and it's even more amazing if you attempt it yourself.
The trick was actually an homage to Anderson University football player Dontez Hines, who performed the same amazing feat earlier this year:
But for some reason, it's @arielo1220 doing it that really has everyone's minds twisted. Most of the responses are from people who don't really understand how this athletic ability is possible, but here's a hint: it involves having incredibly strong legs, which football players and cheerleaders alike do in abundance.
Even knowing that, I still can't quite figure out how it works logistically, and neither can much of the internet, judging from some of the attempts I've seen others make. That said, we only saw these two athletes' successful attempts, not all the failures that came before as they perfected this little party trick. So put on some padding and try try again! Just be sure not to break an ankle.
And some people were even tempted to try it themselves, though they're mostly posting complete fails:
Don't mess with the invisible box champion:
