For actor Amanda Peet, the last few months of 2025 and the first few months of 2026 came with a frightening battle. The 54-year-old Hollywood star had to deal with the unimaginable challenge of losing her parents right when her own health hit a crisis point.
In March 2026, she opened up about the battle she faced and how she managed to handle losing her parents at the same time she faced her own mortality. Here's what Amanda had to say about her diagnosis and her update on her health battle.

Here's an update on Amanda Peet's health.
In March 2026, Amanda Peet dropped the bombshell news that she had been diagnosed with Stage 1, hormone-receptor-positive (HR+), HER2-negative breast cancer in October 2025.
While appearing on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen, she shared her experience with her diagnosis.
Andy read out a question from a fan: "How are you doing since the diagnosis and what is the piece of advice you've gotten from someone as you're dealing with this?"
Amanda mused, "I'm doing great. And the best piece of advice I would say is ... Enjoy it while we're here." Andy added, "That is something to live by every day."
In a March 21, 2026, article published with The New Yorker, Amanda explained how the cancer diagnosis came while she was receiving an exam at the doctor's office. "[The doctor] told me that she didn’t like the way something looked on the ultrasound and wanted to perform a biopsy," she said.
Shortly after tests were run and while Amanda was waiting for results, her father died of Parkinson's.
She told the outlet that she missed his last breaths, but was able to see his body before it was removed. "As soon as my dad’s corpse was out of sight, I was free to panic about my cancer again," she said.
Unfortunately, the heartbreak wasn't over.
Amanda's mom was dying, and she was still waiting on a final diagnosis.
Luckily, the news for her breast biopsies was not as bad as it could have been, and they were able to treat her with radiation over the next few months. Meanwhile, Amanda continued to be a wife, mother, and daughter.
Then, in mid-January 2026, news came that Amanda's mother would be passing away imminently.
Amanda's story is inspiring fans.
Amanda rushed to her mother's side to sit death watch and recalled administering a dose of morphine to ease her passing.
Then, to soothe her mom's restless discomfort, she lay down next to her.
The actor recalled, "I wasn’t sure whether my mom knew that she was looking at me or whether I was just a constellation of interesting, disembodied shapes. I said 'Howdy doodle'—that’s how she often greeted me. But then I realized that she was communing without words, and I followed suit. Time was running out, and, besides, I had already told her everything."
Now, despite those back-to-back losses and her own battle with mortality, Amanda seems to be doing well. And her story is inspiring many.
In comment sections on TikTok, users share their own experience with cancer and loss, writing that she's an "example of how to endure."
Others expressed sympathy and wished peace for her after so much turmoil. One person noted, "Better to be open and hopefully inspire others! Everyone has the right to keep to themselves, but sharing this stuff is a positive thing."
Many seemed to agree, finding comfort in her courage.
