In a post-apocalyptic ice world, the only remaining remnants of life are forced to live aboard a high-speed moving train that travels around the globe. The TNT series Snowpiercer is an adaptation of Bong Joon Ho's 2013 film of the same name, which follows the daily lives of the passengers (aka the world's last remaining survivors) who are separated into different "classes."
While first class citizens live the life of luxury, everyone below them fall somewhere in between, while the lower-class citizens aboard the back of the train, also known as the "tailies," are forced to live in impoverished conditions, reduced to eating sparse food, improper medical care, cramped and dirty living conditions, and etc.
Ahead of the show's premiere, Distractify spoke with one of the stars and first-class citizens from Snowpiercer, Annalise Basso. The 21-year-old actress opened up about her "unstable" character LJ Folger and teased the shocking moments to come in the sci-fi show.
'Snowpiercer' star Annalise Basso opens up about her character LJ in new TNT series.
As a first-class teen living on the high-tech train, LJ is living the life that everyone below her dreams about. However, she's still unhappy and seemingly decides to take out her emotions on those around her. Basically, watch out!
"She’s angry and sad and I guess the only good times she has on the train is when she’s creating chaos," Annalise explained to Distractify.
LJ will apparently cause a bit too much chaos aboard Snowpiercer, which shakes the entire train. "The environment on Snowpiercer is very contained so the slightest little incident can have a disastrous explosive effect," the actor teased. "So LJ … she creates a pretty big incident. The whole train is rocked by it." Adding, "What I would tell fans to expect is expect the unexpected. LJ is really unpredictable."
Annalise teases Season 1 finale, which sets up exploration of "whole new world" for Season 2.
Already greenlit for a Season 2 by the network ahead of the show's premiere, new episodes were already being filmed before being shut down by the current coronavirus pandemic (also known as COVID-19). So, will Season 1 end on a major cliffhanger that many dramas are keen to implement during a finale?
"I think fans will be pleasantly surprised because, in the middle of the show, there is this revolution and you think ok what else can happen on a train besides people rebelling?" Annalise told us about the finale. "How do you make a show around something that is so insulated?"
While the 2013 film ended on a major cliffhanger (Spoiler alert: The train stopped), we don't think the series, which is set eight years prior to the movie, will follow suit. But, Annalise teased that the Season 1 finale will be exciting and unexpected, which will set up storylines for the next installment.
"To have this thing happen at the end of the season, it’s like oh my gosh, now you get to explore a whole new world," she said. "I think people will be as excited about the second season as they are about the end of the first." Well, we certainly can't wait to watch!
Catch the premiere of Snowpiercer on Sunday, May 17, at 9 p.m. ET on TNT.
