New 'Billy on the Street' Segment Stars the One and Only Mariah Carey

Billy Eichner has had roles in Parks and Rec and Bob's Burgers. He was the voice of Timon in the reboot of The Lion King. But his first major project is Billy on the Street, the short series that follows a manic Billy through the streets of New York City yelling at strangers and getting them to participate in hilariously subjective games of pop culture and trivia. And the most recent Billy on the Street segment was a dream come true for all parties involved. 

Yes, that Mariah Carey. How Mariah ended up on Billy on the Street is a story that starts with...a bunch of tweets. Billy explained the origin of the connection on The Late Late Show with James Corden. 

He explains that Mariah Carey followed him on Twitter out of the blue one day. As a lifelong fan, this was a huge deal for him. "I've been obsessed with her my whole life," Billy said on The Late Late Show. "I had my first kiss listening to Mariah Carey." So the fact that she followed him on Twitter was already a dream come true. 

But then, she started tweeting about how much she loved the show. She was bingeing Billy on the Street on Netflix and tweeting about it. Soon, they were privately messaging each other, and the rest, they say, is a fantasy. Except this fantasy also happened in real life. 

It did not take long for Mariah Carey to end up on Billy on the Street after their initial connection. And as you may have gathered, the whole thing is magical. Billy is clearly so excited to have her on board. 

The clip is perfect for many reasons but the main one is that Mariah Carey seems as excited as she could possibly seem to be on Billy on the Street while simultaneously seemingly completely uninterested in interacting with the general public, who are all beside themselves at getting a glimpse of the real Mariah Carey. It's perfect.

Perhaps the most surprising moment in the whole thing is when Billy and Mariah approach a couple of very blonde women who tell them that they are from Sweden. Without missing a beat, Mariah greets them in Swedish! This woman is a magical being, I swear. 

Billy Eichner released the video earlier on December 16, and in less than 24 hours, the video has over a million views on Twitter and YouTube. It's a total fan favorite, in addition to very clearly being a Billy favorite.

Fans are absolutely head over heels for the dream team that is Mariah Carey and Billy Eichner. And we're not the only ones. Billy himself couldn't help all caps on Twitter as he expressed just how much he loved working with his musical hero. He wrote, "I LOVE YOU @MariahCarey THIS WAS THE GREATEST NIGHT OF MY LIFE!!!!" Ours too, Billy. Ours too.
