Who will 'Dancing With the Stars' new host be?

The announcement of Tom's departure was not accompanied by news on who the show's new host would be. For now, the team at ABC is making changes as they adapt to the realities of producing the show during the COVID-19 pandemic. Apparently, the show is planning to move forward with its fall season in spite of the pandemic.

What changes will 'DWTS' be making due to the ongoing pandemic?

ABC Entertainment President Kary Burke said that BBC Studios, the studio behind the show, had tried to learn from other territories about how to adapt to the pandemic.

“I have seen the presentation from the Dancing With the Stars producers on how we are planning to produce this show, post-COVID and with the health regulations in place because they have the advantage of making it in other territories and I am blown away by the ingenuity and the care which they are producing it,” she said.

“We are bringing all of those innovations to the American broadcast. I’m really confident in their plan," Kary continued.

As for now, the show gave Tom a fond farewell, and Tom, who announced his departure on Twitter, didn't seem to have any ill-will about his firing.

How Tom Bergeron handled his firing:

"Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me," Tom wrote. "It's been an incredible 15 year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I'm grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?"

Although they were letting him go, ABC also seemed to have warm feelings toward the host.

“Tom Bergeron will forever be part of the Dancing with the Stars family. As we embark on a new creative direction, he departs the show with our sincerest thanks and gratitude for his trademark wit and charm that helped make this show a success. Erin will also not be returning, and we appreciate all that she brought to the ballroom," said ABC and BBC Studios in a joint statement.

"Fans have been rooting for her since she originally competed as a contestant back in 2010, and her signature sense of humor has become a hallmark of the show," the statement continued. Tom had hosted more than 400 episodes of the show in his years in the role.

What other details do we know about the new 'DWTS' season?

Details on the new season are still somewhat minimal, but the show has announced that former Bachelorette Kaitlyn Bristowe will be joining the cast for the new season. The full cast for next season, as well as details of what the show will look like, have yet to be revealed.
