K-Pop superstars BTS released their English-language debut in August 2020 with their hit “Dynamite,” and South Korean girl group Blackpink might not be far behind. After all, three of the women of Blackpink speak English, and the fourth is a polyglot in her own right.
Either way, it’s high time to get to know Blackpink, especially now that they’ve release their debut album — fittingly titled "The Album" — and filmed a highly anticipated Netflix documentary.
Does Blackpink speak English?
Three of Blackpink’s four members — Kim Jennie, Park Chaeyoung, and Lalisa Manoban — speak English fluently, according to TIME. The fourth member, Kim Jisoo, does not, but she does speak Korean, Japanese, and Chinese.
Park Chaeyoung, better known as Rosé, has even been treating fans to English-language song covers, like her popular rendition of Halsey’s track “Eyes Closed.”
What happened with Jennie from Blackpink and her nurse’s outfit?
After Jennie appeared in a revealing nurse’s outfit in the Blackpink music video “Lovesick Girls,” the Korean Health and Medical Workers’ Union complained about the sexualized nature of the costume, according to allkpop.
In response, YG Entertainment issued a statement on Oct. 7, revealing an intention to “delete all scenes involving the nurse outfit” and upload a new version of the video, as the site reported.
“We will take this opportunity to deeply reflect on the heavy responsibilities laid out before us through this issue, caused due to the fact that we were unable to predict the rise of such a controversy,” the company added. “We would like to deeply apologize to nurses who felt discomfort from this issue. And once again, we deliver our sincerest feelings of respect toward all healthcare workers devoting themselves to the wellbeing of our nation.”
When will Blackpink appear on ‘Knowing Bros.’?
Blackpink will reportedly make their second appearance on the South Korean variety show Knowing Bros on Saturday, Oct. 17, according to allkpop. The group last appeared on the JTBC program in August 2017.
When will Blackpink appear on ‘Running Man’?
The girl group is also gearing up for a guest spot on another South Korean variety show: the SBS series Running Man. Their last Running Man appearance came in December 2016, according to Soompi.
What is the release date for the Blackpink Netflix documentary?
The documentary Blackpink: Light Up the Sky — helmed by Salt Fat Acid Heat director Caroline Suh — will start streaming on Netflix on Wednesday, Oct. 14, according to Deadline.
