If ever there were a good time for a highly anticipated Lifetime movie release, now would be it. Maternal Secrets airs May 9, strategically coinciding with Mother’s Day weekend and a whole line-up of mom-themed content.
But if you’re looking for a heartwarming watch, this isn’t the one you want. The thriller is about a pregnant woman, Aubrey, whose U.S. senator boyfriend, Jackson, suddenly goes missing on vacation in Bermuda. That's when her frantic search to find him ensues.
Throw in an unexpected run-in with his (deranged) estranged mother and more ghosts from his past, and it promises to be quite a watch.
There’s a lot of curiosity around the Maternal Secrets female-forward cast, so here’s a look at who is starring in the movie.
‘Days of our Lives’ Kate Mansi has the leading role.
Kate plays Aubrey, the pregnant main character who thinks she’ll be relaxing on her babymoon and winds up in pursuit of her missing boyfriend.
You may recognize her as Abby on Days of Our Lives or from How I Met Your Mother.
Kate was particularly proud of the largely female cast, telling Soap Opera Digest, “I spent a month in Bermuda with a fake baby bump and some pretty incredible people making this movie. I’m most proud that it was the largest female cast & crew I’ve ever worked with so far.”
Countess Luann plays Jackson's mom.
Luann de Lesseps isn’t just a reality TV, singer, and cabaret star. She’s also an actress, and takes on the role of Jackson’s ("real") mom.
If you’re confused because you heard the movie the Countess was in went by a different name, that’s because it did! Maternal Secrets was filmed back in early 2017 under the working title Babymoon. Then the trailer was released under the title Mother of All Secrets, and that’s the one Luann shared.
Kelly McGillis from ‘Top Gun’ is the devious Rose.
A far cry from her famous role as Tom Cruise’s love interest Charlie in the 1986 film Top Gun, Kelly plays a cunning character in Maternal Secrets. Rose shows up claiming to be Jackson’s estranged mom, which... no. She then proceeds to wreak all kinds of havoc.
Brooke Burfitt plays the villainous ex-girlfriend.
As if a missing boyfriend and a fake mom on the warpath weren’t enough for one pregnant lady to deal with, Brooke’s character Samantha shows up to add to the fun. She's doesn't appear to be very well known in Hollywood, but she's certainly got the role of evil villain down.
And we can’t forget Sean Stolzen as Jackson.
Though he's not part of the fierce female line-up, Sean definitely deserves a mention as the lead male role — and the one that all the fuss is over. You may recognize him for FBI: Most Wanted, for which he’s best known. We have a feeling he'll gain some more fame once Maternal Secrets releases.
“All the cast were perfect for their roles,” says co-writer and director Lucinda Spurling. “Kelly taught us all a lot from her years of experience. Kate really carried the film as the lead. Sean Stolzen is a talented actor who occupied the shadowy area of leading man and possible villain very well."
We’ll be watching!
