What is the 'Happy Jar' trend on TikTok about?

First and foremost, Happy Jars are containers of whatever size, shape, and color you choose that you decorate on your own. You write down your happiest memories on little pieces of paper and fill the jar up with these pieces over the year. When the year is complete, you can look back into the jar and think back on all the happy memories you had, even when things felt negative or even scary. It's meant to help keep a smile on your face, no matter what's going on in your life.

TikTok users have been sharing so many colorful and creative designs of their own, taking sunny yellows and other hues to paint their jars and taking to the platform to show them off. No matter how people choose to decorate them, however, the aim is the same. They're meant to help be little reminders of how great life can truly be, even in the middle of the dark moments, of which there can be many these days – or so it seems.

You don't even have to call it a Happy Jar if you don't want to. People have called theirs a "Jar of Joy" and "Happy Happenings" on TikTok, and you can do the same. You don't have to decorate your jar if you don't want to. All you have to do is count up the moments over the year that put a smile on your face and come back to them one day later so that future you has something to look back fondly on. And that's something anyone can appreciate.
