Hunger Games has become something of a global phenomenon. The books and movies alone have grossed over a billion dollars world wide so it's popularity is no doubt huge. It seems people are really intrigued by the idea of a winner take all style battle royal because there's tons of whispering about how it would make an amazing event. Well, minus the death and stuff.
It seems that dream may actually become a reality -- Motiongate Dubai opened up their nightmare theme park The World of The Hunger Games based on the trilogy by Suzanne Collins, in which a bunch of teens are forced to murder each other until a civil war breaks out. Fun! Granted this is the PG version so no one ACTUALLY gets hurt but it still has the same adrenaline rush we're used to from the movies.
Many have objected to making the story of Katniss Everdeen's desperate bid for survival into a lived experience, but whatever. Those people probably can't afford to fly to Dubai anyway. Pictures of the park's opening are pretty astounding, both for their attention to detail and the awkwardness of the whole scenario:
They even got Elizabeth Banks working for them:
Don't worry, if you were sad about how Katniss's family had to work as miners with barely enough food to sustain themselves, you'll be cheered up by their song and dance. It's oddly...joyful? We're not sure how to categorize it truthfully:
If you're not cheered up, the Peacekeepers will make you cheer up:
In defense of Dystopia Playland, they do have some signs of the eventual resistance scattered around:
Some of them are even CATCHING FIRE:
And at the end of the day, it's really just another place to cram in a rollercoaster.
