In these quarantine times, those of us who live with a romantic partner are probably getting to know each other better than ever. Even if you've been married for years, with so many of us working from home every day and pretty much spending our time only with our immediate family, it's really brought intimacy to a new level for a lot of people.

Which is probably why the couples challenge is trending on TikTok and Instagram. If you and your mate want to test your knowledge of each other for all your followers to see, here are the couples challenge questions with links to the audio tracks for two of the most popular quizzes.

The couples challenge questions are best administered by a neutral third party.

If you happen to have another person living with you, it works best to have them film you and give you the questions, sight unseen, so that you and your partner can issue your answer without deliberation or waiting to see their answer — or on TikTok you can use the track with the questions

Each question is a superlative about which half of the couple is more likely to or tends more strongly toward a particular characteristic, be it spending frivolously, stubbornness, or affection. You answer either by pointing at the person who fits the bill or some people hold one of their shoes and one of their partner's and hold up the shoe belonging to the guilty party for each question.

There are a couple versions of the questionnaire, but the most popular one is as follows:

  • Who said I love you first?
  • Who takes longer to get ready in the morning?
  • Who is grumpier in the morning?
  • Who is more stubborn?
  • Who is the bigger baby when sick?
  • Who is the social butterfly?

A slightly different questionnaire recently made the rounds on Instagram and TikTok:

  • Who made the first move?
  • Who said I love you first?
  • Who’s the better driver?
  • Who’s the strictest parent?
  • Who’s the messier eater?
  • Who’s the better dancer?
  • Who’s better at giving directions?
  • Who’s more patient?
  • Who has the last say in an argument?
  • Who’s the biggest spender?
  • Who is the most stubborn?
  • Who has the craziest family?
  • Who is always right?
  • Who is more romantic?

A third version we've seen floating around has the following questions:

  • Who fell in love first?
  • Who’s more annoying when they’re hungry?
  • Who’s the homebody in the relationship?
  • Who’s more spoiled?
  • Who’s more grumpy?
  • Who lies more?
  • Who takes care of the other when drunk?
  • Who has better hygiene?
  • Who calls or texts more?
  • Who’s the alpha in the relationship?
  • Who has the cuter smile?
  • Who loves the other person more?
  • Who can’t wait for marriage and kids?
  • Who initiated the first kiss?

Be sure you're having a good day before taking on the couples questions challenge, though, because some of these questions seemed designed to stoke a fight! Of course, the beauty of a social media challenge is you can make it your own, so if you don't want to stir the pot with questions like "who loves the other person more" — hopefully the answer is that you love each other equally! — you can always leave that one out.

The questions are designed not only to discover how well you know each other but how self-aware you are about your role in some pretty common conflicts that arise in a relationship, particularly over issues like spending money and cleaning up after oneself. Have fun and play responsibly!
