What is the green screen sticker on TikTok?

The green screen sticker is another fun effect that's available in the TikTok editing section of the app. Unlike the green screen filter, which allows the user to adjust and change their background, the green screen sticker allows the user to place a separate image or video within their video, or the opposite — place a video of themselves within a still image or video.

TikTok released this feature on the app around the beginning of June and featured a video showcasing its use on Facebook.

In this video, the green screen sticker is how the user gets the Google search engine photo to show up on the screen. This is one way to use the effect, but there are a lot of different and creative ways to use it. "Use our new effect #GreenScreenSticker," the company wrote in the description of the Facebook video, and that hashtag on TikTok shows just how popular the effect is.

There are different ways to use the green screen sticker on TikTok.

There have been 1.8 billion views of the videos using the green screen sticker on TikTok, according to the hashtag page. And it also shows the many creative ways users are utilizing it.

Spot the difference videos seems to be one of the more popular ways TikTok creators are using the effect. In this type of video, a user creates a video with themselves and asks the viewer to spot the difference. Using the green screen sticker, they place a side-by-side photo of something — both looking really similar — however, there's one small difference to pick out.

One gotta go is another way the sticker is being used. For this type of video, the creator places a sticker of a few different, but like things (such as 4 different sodas or 3 different actors, etc) and asks the viewer to choose which one they would do without — you know, which one has got to go?

One creative way to use the sticker has impressed some on both Twitter and TikTok. User laffytaffyjuulpod uploaded a still photo of several images of Hamilton star Lin-Manuel Miranda. Playing with the song "Heather," suddenly one of the still images starts to move — one of the TikTok user herself.

When she shared the video on Twitter, people were quick to notice how awesome it is and asked if she could explain how she pulled this off. Turns out, the green screen sticker on TikTok is how she got it to work.

"I’m really bad at explaining But! you take a screenshot of whatever you want on pinterest, go to the magiceraser app, erase the square that you want, save it as a png, and then use the greenscreen sticker," she explained.
