Everyone on TikTok (or all other forms of social media, TBH) knows that it’s all about the filters. Whether you’re adding a funny filter to lighten the mood, trying out a new hair color, or attempting to determine whether you can hold your hand still enough to be a surgeon, TikTok filters are definitely where it’s at.
And so, if you’ve seen anyone using the Enhance filter in a TikTok video, you may be interested in trying it for yourself. Who wouldn’t want to “enhance” their natural beauty (even if it is only for a TikTok video)? Unfortunately, if you’re wondering how to get the filter, you may be disappointed in what we have to tell you.
Wondering how to get the Enhance filter on TikTok? We have bad news.
A quick glimpse through TikTok videos using the #enhancefilter tag shows you exactly how people are using the filter. The filter itself contains several different settings that allow you to adjust the appearance of your face in your videos. You can use the Enhance filter to smooth your skin, add contour, whiten your teeth, change the shape of your face, change the size of your lips, and add makeup. Basically, it’s a one-stop shop for anyone who wants to do a real number on their self-esteem!
With most TikTok filters, you can simply find a video that uses them and then tap the magic wand near the caption to try the filter for yourself. You can also attempt to search through the effects in the Camera tab (although it is notoriously difficult to find the specific filter you’re looking for using that method). However, some people have been completely unable to find the Enhance filter on TikTok — that’s because it’s not available to every TikTok user.
There seems to be some confusion about why only some TikTok users have been granted the use of the Enhance filter. Some people claim that you need a certain number of followers before you get the app, while others say they had it even when their followers were only in the double digits.
If you’re one of the lucky ones who does have the Enhance filter, you should see the icon for it on the right side of your Camera tab screen when you go to film a video — it’ll be the third one down. If you don’t see it, you can try updating your app, but that most likely means you were not one of the accounts chosen to test the Enhance effect. We’re guessing TikTok will roll it out to everyone eventually, though, so be patient!
On the bright side, you may see the Beauty effect instead, which is basically a less intense version of the Enhance effect. From what we can tell, turning on Beauty Mode smooths your skin and softens the camera’s focus a bit, but that’s pretty much it. It’s definitely a subtle effect, but it’s not nothing!
Anyway, sorry to be the bearers of bad news on this one. We hope that TikTok gives everyone the ability to use the Enhance effects soon!
