Kim Kardashian Just Turned 40 and the Memes Are Glorious
By Mustafa GatollariFeb. 8 2021, Updated 3:19 p.m. ET
It can be argued that the closest thing America has to a Royal Family is not the Trumps, even though they've transitioned from the world of business into politics quite handily, but the Kardashians. For years, each member of OJ Simpson's former lawyer's family has managed to not only become the subject of public fascination and ire, but the possessors of some pretty sizable bank accounts, as well.
Kylie Jenner, at just 23 years old is pretty much a billionaire, and her sisters Kourtney and Khloe are rocking respective net worths of $35 and $40 million. Kim's the Kardashian that started it all, however: the true patron saint of the Kardashian family. The clan became notorious after Kim and her mother, Kris, reportedly leaked a sex tape of Kim and R&B singer Ray J that was taken while they were on vacation.
It was a similar rise to stardom that Kim's former friend, Paris Hilton (who she worked as a wardrobe manager for) enjoyed, but the Armenian-American socialite seemed to have taken the idea of reality TV show and endorsement deals even further than Paris ever could have.
Now Kim has hit the big 4-0, she decided to go all out with a bash that involved multiple COVID screenings for her closest friends and family members.
After 2 weeks of multiple health screens and asking everyone to quarantine, I surprised my closest inner circle with a trip to a private island where we could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time. pic.twitter.com/cIFP7Nv5bV

Before COVID, I don’t think any of us truly appreciated what a simple luxury it was to be able to travel and be together with family and friends in a safe environment. pic.twitter.com/lhzLIdutlZ

She flew them all to a private island where they "could pretend things were normal just for a brief moment in time." Because private flights off to sequestered islands is the norm. Well, for her and her family anyway.
There was a lot for people to unpack. The first being that they couldn't believe there were members of her inner circle who were legitimately surprised with a trip to an island after being told to isolate for a couple of weeks.
I love the idea that Kim Kardashian's closest friends quarantined for two weeks and THEN were surprised.

It didn't take long for people to start roasting the idea of Kim and her pals partying on a private island. There were allusions to Club Penguin that were made, Smash Bros., The Muppets....you name it.

It seems like that particular line is one that really tickled people pink and the meme format then took on a weird form of just screencapping ensemble/group images from famous TV series', movies, heck even paintings and the entire thing just went off the rails.

But there were also plenty of other people who lambasted Kim's comments as being completely out of touch and tone deaf given the current COVID-19 pandemic and those who are adversely affected by it: whether it be their health or financial livelihoods.

Others noticed that while Kim and her family and friends were having a grand old time on the island to celebrate her birthday, there were workers still donning masks during the festivities. Someone succinctly commented "mask up poors" to really highlight just how insensitive Kim's birthday post came off as.

But it seems like the chorus from the birthday party was the "After 2 weeks of multiple health screens" line and people couldn't help themselves.

And sure, while it may come off as seriously snobby to post something like that and then share it with everyone on the internet to show how badly you just wanted to "feel normal" in an attempt to endear yourself to your followers or come off as more "human" - it's hard to imagine Kim's going to be losing any sleep over it.
Would you? So lampoon away, I'm sure Kim really doesn't care as she's flying back to Calabasas in a private jet, wearing jewelry pieces that could pay off your and your two closest friends' student loans.
But go ahead and enjoy these memes.
