Even when Taylor Swift has very little to do with it, her fans can be incredibly defensive of one of the biggest artists in the history of pop music. Swifties are known for their ability to coordinate and for their love of Taylor, and their latest target is Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl, who seems to be aware that he might face some backlash.

Dave and Taylor don't exactly share a lot in common musically, but the comments were a surprise for some because they seemed harsher than the kinds of things that Dave usually says. Here's what we know about what he said and how Taylor and her fans have reacted to the slight.

What did Dave Grohl say about Taylor Swift?

Dave and Taylor were both performing in London over the weekend of June 22, and Dave decided to address who else was in town during the band's show at London Stadium on June 22.

“I know we were joking about the Taylor Swift tour earlier. I know that she's on her Eras tour,” he told the crowd at London Stadium, who began booing when her name was invokved. “You don't want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift," he warned.

In spite of his warning, though, he continued to discuss the tour.

“We like to call our tour ‘The Errors Tour,’" he said. "Because I feel like we've had more than a few eras and more than a few fucking errors as well.”

"That's because we actually play live,” he continued. He then appeared shocked. “What? We're a live band! I’m just saying, you guys like raw, live rock ‘n’ roll music right? You came to the right f--king place.”

Fans had pretty strong reactions to the comments, with many suggesting that what Dave had said was mean or out of bounds. Others wondered why Dave felt the need to tear down another artist in order to make himself feel big.

Taylor, for her part, seemed to obliquely respond during her performance at Wembley Stadium the following night while introducing her band.

“Every one of my band members, every single one of our crew, my band — who’s gonna be playing live for you for three and a half hours tonight — they deserve this so much,” she said during night three of her time at Wembley. Although she didn't mention Dave by name, many assumed this comment was about what he had said.

Dave has previously praised Taylor on several occasions.

Dave's comments were particularly strange because he has not been known for hating on Taylor in the past. In fact, he has praised her on multiple occasions, even dedicating a song to her in 2015 saying that he was "officially obsessed."

Dave has also told the story of a time they were both attending a party thrown by Paul McCartney in 2018, and she saved him by performing one of his songs for him after he was "a little out of sorts" when he was called on to perform.
