What happened to Lindsey Buckingham?

According to reporting from NBC4, Lindsey was attacked after showing up for an appointment in Santa Monica. The attack happened just after Lindsey entered the building and involved the woman throwing an unknown substance at Lindsey before running away. Authorities reportedly have a suspect, but no arrests have yet been made. Lindsey apparently knew the woman from previous incidents, and authorities say they expect to make an arrest in the case soon.

Authorities also said that they believe the woman figured out when and where Lindsey had an appointment and then made a plan to intercept him. He was not injured during the incident. Santa Monica police and the LAPD are working on the case, and Lindsey has not released any statements about the incident. Given his history with her, it seems like this might not have been a total shock to him.

Lindsey Buckingham is a foundational part of Fleetwood Mac.

Lindsey is likely best known for his time as the lead guitarist and one of the lead vocalists in Fleetwood Mac. His contentious relationship with Stevie Nicks is the reason he is no longer in the band as of 2018. Lindsey and Stevie dated in the early days of the band, and some of the group's most powerful songs are about the dissolution of the relationship between them.

During an interview with the Library of Congress in 2025, Lindsey discussed the band's legacy and the way the contentious relationships inside the band could sometimes fuel great music.

"Unfortunately, it was difficult emotionally," Lindsey said of being in the band. "There was no closure for anyone. We had to be around each other all the time. I didn’t get the chance to get over Stevie; I wasn’t over her."

"Then, as a producer and in bringing her songs to life in the studio, I had to be in touch with my better self," he continued. "We saw it all as this destiny to fulfill. We were in a place where we had to — like it or not — get in touch with our better selves and rise above. I think that was much of the appeal of the album, how autobiographical it was. And that we made something significant in spite of all the troubles."

The band's album "Rumours" is widely considered to be one of the best ever made, and a defining album of the 1970s. Thankfully, Lindsey is okay and will be able to keep talking about and making his music for some time to come.
