Are Shea and Syd McGee Mormon?

Shea and Syd are the married couple behind Studio McGee, an interior design and e-commerce business with 70 employees and clients all over the world, according to Netflix.

There’s no readily available information about Shea and Syd’s faith, but Shea did graduate from Brigham Young University — a private researcher university owned by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, or the Mormon Church — with a B.A. in communications and public relations in 2007 before studying interior design at Saddleback College.

A page on Mormon Wiki, meanwhile, claims both Shea and Syd are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, but the page doesn’t list a source for that information.

The couple started their company after Syd’s digital marketing firm was acquired. “While Syd was re-grouping, I figured I would do what I could [do] (with a two-month-old baby) to help [tide] us over with my blossoming little design business — I launched a website and got an Instagram account. And everything changed,” Shea blogged in 2014.

“My business grew exponentially,” Shea added. “I had people from throughout Southern California, and even across the country, asking me to design their homes. I had no idea how to handle the workload, but never considered working with my husband to be an option. And then one day it clicked. Syd was searching for a new start-up to dive into and there was the perfect candidate right in front of him. I remember crying and asking, ‘Are you sure we can do this?’ As it turns out, the answer was, ‘Yes!’”

With that new plan in mind, the couple sold their home, moved to Utah, and started Studio McGee in Salt Lake City. And the rest, as they say, is home design history.

Who are Shea and Syd McGee's kids?

Dream Home Makeover doesn't just spotlight Syd and Shea’s home design skills, but it also follows their lives as busy parents.

Syd and Shea are the parents of three lovely daughters. Wren is their eldest, who was born in 2013, while Ivy arrived in 2016. Their youngest daughter is Margot, who they welcomed in 2021.

Wren and Ivy are often featured in the series as they help their parents. Fingers crossed that we'll get to see some of Margot on deck in a few years.

Dream Home Makeover Seasons 1, 2, and 3 are now available to stream on Netflix.
