Woman Asks Husband to Chop Bananas for Smoothies — He Keeps the Peels On

It’s not easy being a new mom. But it’s even harder to be a man. One woman’s video of her husband's banana slices is concerning.

When we become adults and have to cook and clean for ourselves, there are some things we just know. One of those things is that if we slice bananas (or any fruit or vegetable with a peel for that matter), we should probably take the peel off before slicing them. Otherwise, we end up with many more small pieces that we have to peel individually.

When one woman’s TikTok video went viral, it incited a conversation on not just the right way to slice fruit, but also if it’s even worth being married if men are that clueless. TikToker Debby Tos shared how her husband decided to slice bananas with the peels on. Luckily, the fallout wasn’t too bad, although we can’t help but wonder what led him to make such a *unique* decision.

Debby’s husband sliced bananas with the peels still on, which wasted more time than it saved.

On March 6, 2024, Debby shared a video showcasing the “joys” of marriage and new motherhood. “You guys,” she began as she showed us bags of banana slices with the peels on, “I asked [my husband] to cut these bananas and put them in the freezer so I could throw them into our shakes when we make protein shakes. Why did he leave the banana peel on? What the f---???”

Throughout her TikTok account, Debby shares her day-to-day life as a stay-at-home mom of a baby, who’s now almost a toddler! Naturally, she’s incredibly busy, from feeding herself and keeping the home clean to making sure their daughter eats, sleeps, and is happy and healthy. So when she asks her husband to slice the bananas, we’d assume he doesn’t need further instruction.

People in the comments of Debby’s video are split about if her husband deserves to be dragged.

There’s no better place than a comments section, and when it comes to Debby’s banana-peel video, it does not disappoint. Many are quick to judge her husband, Parham, for not knowing that he should’ve peeled the banana first. The top comment says, “Now you tell him to go back and peel each piece. Won’t do it wrong next time. Gotta teach them to do it right or do it twice.”

Luckily, Debby and Par did just that in a follow-up video in which Debby shows Par happily peeling each individual piece. He seems to be a good husband (at least on TikTok and Instagram) and may have just actually not known he should’ve peeled the bananas first.

One commenter even suggested that perhaps he did that on purpose to keep the pieces from sticking to each other since frozen banana notoriously sticks to other things in the freezer. This is common for fruits and vegetables that emit a bit of water. As they freeze, the water forms a light ice layer and sticks to other objects, making banana slices stick to themselves, for instance.

But what’s more important in this case — non-stickiness or efficiency? It doesn’t take a detective to figure out that Debby was just looking for a little time-saving help from Par. Some commenters even joked that as retribution, she should just put the pieces with peels in Par’s shakes and see how he likes that.

Others suggested that Par knew what he was doing and that he did it wrong to avoid doing it again. While that’s definitely possible, it doesn’t seem likely. Women are too smart to deal with that sort of behavior. And some are so unwilling to deal with that that they commented they are grateful to be single after seeing this video.

While not knowing how to peel bananas may not be a dealbreaker, it’s certainly not a great representation of husband behavior.
