Korean group BTS is an international sensation, but you know that by now. The K-pop band may have risen to insane levels of fame in Korea since they started playing shows in 2013, but now they have fans all around the world.
That's a lot of years in the spotlight though. Touring and performing can take a lot out of a person, especially when you have as many screaming fans as RM, J-Hope, Suga, Jimin, Jin, Jungkook, and V do. The guys seem to be at the height of their fame, but that hasn't stopped them from taking a breather and stepping out of the limelight for a little while.
Is BTS taking a break?
Listen. They've been touring and producing music constantly for six years. The boys of BTS deserve a vacation. So that's exactly what they're doing.
In August, their parent company BitHit Entertainment, announced that BTS would be taking an "official and extended period of rest," according to Time magazine.
"This period of rest will be an opportunity for the members of BTS...to recharge and prepare to present themselves anew as musicians and creators," the statement continues.
So don't worry. BTS is not breaking up.
They were understandably exhausted from putting on insanely energetic shows and touring all over the world for six years nonstop. They may be boy-band superstars, but they're also human beings, and they needed a little breather.
According to BigHit Entertainment, this break will also "provide them with a chance to enjoy the ordinary lives of young people in their 20s, albeit briefly." Something tells me that no matter how ordinarily Jimin tries to live during this break, his life will be anything but.
All seven members of BTS are between 21 and 26 years old. They're super young, and many of them have been performing as professionals since their early teens. They deserve a break! It can't be easy to announce to millions of adoring fans that you simply have to take some time off, though.
Some people understood that just because they are taking some time off does not mean BTS is breaking up, so they supported this period of rest. Others, as you can probably surmise, didn't take the news quite as well.
BigHit even appealed to BTS fans in their statement, writing, "Should you have a chance encounter with a member of BTS... we ask that you show consideration for their need to rest." I truly hope fans can respect that, but I still think it will probably be difficult for these guys to live normal lives.
When is BTS coming back?
Give these guys a break! They just went on vacation. But good news; it seems they started slowly easing back to work on Sept. 16. They were spotted at the airport, leaving to film a TV show "overseas" somewhere, according to Billboard.
And they've already got an extension of their tour scheduled. BTS is performing in Seoul as part of their Love Yourself: Speak Yourself Tour at the end of October. BTS is back, baby!
