Meagan Good says that she’s never intentionally opted for skin bleaching.

On April 1, 2026, Meagan sat down with The Breakfast Club and set the record straight after rumors that she had opted for skin bleaching spread like wildfire. And based on her statements, it’s something many Black women could relate to.

During her chat, she said that she consulted with an LA-based esthetician about how to treat her persistent hyperpigmentation. However, things went left.

“I went to this esthetician in LA who was helping me with anti-aging things, and she had soap bars and all this kind of stuff,” Meagan shared. “So then, she was like, 'I just want to fix some of the dark spots that you have.'"

Meagan immediately pushed back, saying that it’s “natural contour.” However, the esthetician persisted, saying that her “skin will be so clear.” And Meagan decided to give it a try.

“I started using the product, and I instantly see that I’m getting lighter,” Meagan revealed. “And she’s like, ‘Don’t worry, just give it a few weeks. All of your color will come back. I gave it a few weeks, and I looked so pale, and so crazy.”

She shared that she went to shoot a show in New York and attended a premiere where photos of her were taken.

“A picture was taken where it was dark around me, but I was blown out,” Megan shared. “So I just looked white and crazy. As a Black woman, I’d never do that to myself, and it just broke my heart to think that young girls would think that I did that or that I don’t like myself.”

She continued: “Why would I do that all of a sudden at 39 years old? That’s crazy.”

Meagan shared that she initially assumed the backlash she received was bigger than she expected, but she realized she had to sit with it because there was nothing she could do. It turned out to be an "answered prayer" that showed her not to care about what people think.

Megan Good’s skin bleaching situation is unfortunately very common.

Unfortunately, some estheticians are not good at their jobs. For folks who are not well-versed in skincare terminology, it can be easy to not understand the ingredients in products and how they can affect your skin.

This is where an esthetician should step in and educate clients so they’re fully aware of what changes they can expect with products. However, since it’s clear that Meagan placed her full trust in the esthetician, that’s why her skin was lightened.

In this case, it’s very important to analyze how your skin reacts to specific products. And once you get an inkling that something is wrong, contact your esthetician or get a second opinion.
