R.I.P. Good Boy — Cheddar the Corgi From 'Brooklyn Nine-Nine' Sadly Passed Away

Let’s take a moment of silence for our beloved TV friend Cheddar the Corgi (real name Stewart) from the comedy series Brooklyn Nine-Nine. The adorable canine sadly passed away “peacefully” at the age of 13.

Playing the role of Captain Ray Holt's adorable dog on the series, Cheddar was certainly the best sidekick. Being a featured player on many of Nine-Nine’s rescues, he was a great addition to the gang. Though Cheddar was played by many Welsh corgis over the years, Stewart had the distinction of being there the longest. So, what happened to Cheddar the Corgi? 

A few days ago, the sitcom star’s owner made the announcement to fans via Instagram that the good boy “crossed the rainbow bridge today.” Grab your tissues, you’re going to need them. “We went to the beach (his favorite place) where he frolicked in the surf and then enjoyed a picnic lunch of In & Out burgers,” she captioned the picture of the beloved pooch.  

Adding, “We relaxed in the sun and just enjoyed each other’s company. Our veterinarian met us there later and Stewart went to sleep peacefully in my arms while listening to the sounds of the ocean. He was a one in a million kind of dog, he was my supahh staah.” 

Stewart’s trainer on the show, Michael W. Miliotti, previously spoke with Entertainment Weekly about what the pooch’s daily life on-set was like, telling the outlet that he’d make mistakes “over and over again just because he can get the laugh.”

Additionally, executive producer Dan Goor explained that even when Stewart messed up a shot, no one on the crew could get mad at him. “In the episode where Gina and Terry try to boost Captain Holt’s social media presence by making Instagram pictures of Cheddar, there is a scene where Holt gives a moving speech filled with gravitas about honor and duty,” he said. 

Adding, “Every time he began that monologue, Cheddar, who was just off screen, would let out a soft, unending howl, which cracked up everyone on set. Every time.” 

Devastated by the heartbreaking loss, fans took to Twitter to reveal their reactions after hearing the news that Cheddar passed away. One person tweeted: “So, the lil corgi who plays Cheddar in Brooklyn Nine-Nine has passed away… I don't think I'm okay.”

One fan made it known that Cheddar “wasn’t just some common b--ch.” The Twitter user continued, “He was the best damn honorary detective in the 99th precinct of the NYPD. R.I.P. to the best boy, Stewart the Corgi aka ‘Detective’ Cheddar Holt.” 

Another added, “First I watched the ending of #StrangersThings then I found out that cheddar the corgi from #Brooklyn99 died. Man this is a rough couple days. #RIPCheddar.” 

Basically, this is a hard week for TV viewers. Cheddar aka Stewart certainly left a paw print on our hearts.
