'Invincible' Battle Between Mark and Conquest Has Horrifying Ending — What Happened Next?

One of the most pressing questions in Invincible has finally been answered: can Mark Grayson, aka Invincible, hold his own against a full Viltrumite?

We've seen him go toe-to-toe before, and he even kinda sorta defeated Conquest once before.

But the Season 4 Episode 5 battle between the old foes proved once and for all that Mark is capable of fighting outside of his weight class.

In a shockingly brutal fight scene that ended in Conquest's death, we see Mark unleash himself in a way he's never had to before. But there's one more pressing question to answer: What happened to Mark after he killed Conquest? Here's what we know.

Even if you don't read the source comics, we all knew it was coming as soon as it was evident that Cecil had saved Conquest: Mark and Conquest would eventually fight again, and only one would survive.

And Season 4 Episode 5 delivered that fight in a major way.

We see Conquest and Mark going head-to-head again, and it's clear that Mark isn't holding back this time. In the last few minutes of the episode, we watch Mark finally close Conquest's eyes forever by strangling him.

But Conquest, in true fashion, exacts a heavy toll, first slamming his hand through Mark's torso and punching out the other side, and then horrifically disemboweling him before eventually dying under Mark's hands.

The end of the episode shows Mark spasming in agony next to Conquest's body. So, what happened to him? We don't know yet. Given the fact that he's the main character, we can be pretty confident that he survives.

Not only is he grievously injured, but the fight with Conquest likely messed with Mark's head in a way that may return to haunt him later.

In the Conquest versus Mark fight, we see Oliver and Omni-Man show up. Oliver is a relatively low-key character so far, but his presence has some pretty big implications.

How exactly are Oliver and Mark related?

Mark is, of course, the son of Viltrumite Omni-Man and a human woman named Debbie. Oliver is his half-brother. After leaving Debbie, Omni-Man fathered Oliver with Andressa, a Thraxan woman.

Omni-Man later married Andressa.

And their relationship between Mark and Oliver will continue to grow and evolve over time. Oliver is a fairly typical teenager, although he struggles with some human experiences.

These things will come to him in time, especially through his relationship with Mark, Eve, and others.

But Oliver and Omni-Man's very different reactions to seeing Mark horrifically injured really highlight how different Oliver and Mark are from their father. Omni-Man's loyalty is a peculiar thing, whereas Mark and Oliver are both doggedly loyal to the people they care about. Such as one another and their friends.

The apple didn't fall too far from the tree for Oliver; it just happens to be his brother that he most closely resembles in personality.
