You can't have the official holiday season (which begins right after Halloween, by the way) without made-for-TV romantic dramas and comedies like A Crafty Christmas Romance. Typically, these Lifetime or Hallmark movies entail production transforming a small town, or a studio, into a romantic winter landscape to truly set the mood.
But when you watch A Crafty Christmas Romance on Lifetime, you're going to be convinced it was filmed in some magical holiday setting. Like all romantic holiday movies, it follows a surprise romance between two unlikely characters as they bond over the holidays.
And, like all romantic holiday movies, it will leave some questions in its wake.
'A Crafty Christmas Romance' was filmed with tons of romantic locations in mind.
Instead of being filmed on a Hollywood sound stage or somewhere in the New England countryside, A Crafty Christmas Romance was filmed entirely in Utah. When the cast and crew were filming back in December 2019, Nicola Posener, who plays lead character Mandy Page, shared some behind-the-scenes images on Instagram and tagged different towns in Utah.
Among the real outdoor shots and those in a church in neighboring cities in Utah, a set was built for Mandy's craft shop. So, while the Page Hobby and Craft store seems like it could be a real life place to visit, if you head to Orem or Provo in Utah in search of it, you'll come up quite a bit short.
Is 'A Crafty Christmas Romance' based on a true story?
Most of the time, made-for-TV romantic holiday movies are not based on real life events, as much as you might wish they were. Sure, we'd all love to believe in the love of a bed and breakfast owner and her rough-around-the-edges childhood best friend, but these movies are typically just stories thought up to get you in the holiday spirit.
There is a book called A Crafty Christmas, but it's a book with Christmas-themed crafts. This movie, on the other hand, follows Mandy as she searches for the owner of a 70-year-old letter to Santa and a coin worth tens of thousands of dollars. There might also be some romance along the way, of course.
The movie is part of Lifetime's 'It's a Wonderful Lifetime.'
Some people look forward to the time of year when they can devote days on end to holiday movie marathons. While Hallmark movies are par for the course, Lifetime's It's a Wonderful Lifetime movie marathon event is picking up any slack left behind. In addition to A Crafty Christmas Romance, the marathon features dozens of other movies in the same vein.
On every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday evening until Dec. 19, 2020, Lifetime features a new holiday movie to watch from the comfort of your own home. And after each one airs, you can watch it again on Lifetime's website as long as you have your cable provider login information.
A Crafty Christmas Romance might spark the adventure-seeking romantic in you, but it's also just the tip of the iceberg.
