Everyone’s a critic! Over the course of Grey’s Anatomy’s 16-and-counting seasons, fans have lit up Twitter with their picks for the worst Grey’s characters, and many of their choices are bound to be controversial.

Here are some the Grey Sloan surgeons fans love to hate, along with Twitter users’ (spoilery) arguments against each one…

Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd)

“Owen Hunt is the worst character on Grey’s Anatomy, CHANGE MY MIND,” tweeted one user, who came prepared with evidence. “He chartered the bad plane & is responsible for the deaths of Mark & Lexie, this man had the audacity to cheat on Christina Yang, was an unsupportive husband, & strung Teddy along for his ego. HE’S CANCELLED!”

Another fan wrote, “Owen Hunt is the worst character on Grey’s Anatomy. He is selfish and manipulative and toxic and thinks he is entitled to everything. Cristina, Amelia, and Teddy deserved so much better than him.”

George O’Malley (T.R. Knight)

“Unpopular Grey’s Anatomy opinion: George was the worst character, and I’m glad Miss Shonda killed him off after 5 seasons,” one Twitter fan wrote. “I disliked [Izzie], as well, but I truly despised George. All he did was whine, have [an] inferiority complex, and feel entitled to women’s time.”

Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl)

After one Twitter user declared that Izzie helped carry the show, another Grey’s fan popped off, writing, “Izzie.... as in Izzie Stevens the MOST boring character in Grey’s Anatomy and the worst surgeon out of all the main characters of the show.... THAT IZZIE?”

Jo Karev (Camilla Luddington)

Jo Karev — or is it back to Jo Wilson now? — didn’t impress one Twitter user back in 2016. “I wish I had a dollar for every time Jo was the worst character on Grey’s Anatomy #cashmoney,” that viewer wrote.

Three years later, a different fan hated on Jo. “Surely Jo has supplanted Amelia as the most annoying character on Grey’s, right?” that fan tweeted. “Betty is gone, and Amelia with Linc is a monumental improvement. Jo remains the WORST.”

Teddy Altman (Kim Raver)

“Teddy is the worst character on Grey’s Anatomy. There. I said it,” wrote one Twitter critic. “No character development. No personality. Absolutely useless.” (To be fair, Teddy had just cheated on Owen right before their wedding.)

Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen)

“I am, once again, without any doubt, saying that Catherine Fox is the worst character in Grey’s Anatomy,” one viewer declared on Twitter, around the time that Catherine bought Pacific North General just to spite Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.) during their breakup.

Derek Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey)

Not everyone is dreamy for McDreamy. “Listen, Derek Shepherd is the worst character on Grey’s Anatomy,” a viewer tweeted.

Another wrote, “Derek Shepherd is the worst Grey’s Anatomy character. He’s an arrogant a—hole, and I wasn’t upset at all when he died in [Season 11]. MerDer was a terrible couple, and Meredith deserved better than him since the start of the show.”

Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo)

Even the ABC medical drama’s namesake runs afoul of some fans. “Sorry, but Meredith Grey is the worst character in Grey’s Anatomy, and Derek Shepherd is a close second,” tweeted one naysayer.

One BuzzFeed writer would concur, having blasted Mer as the show’s “most annoying character ever” and an “ego-centric, narcissistic, whiney child” in a 2015 piece. (Can’t win them all, Mer!)

Grey’s Anatomy Season 17 premieres on Thursday, Nov. 12, at 9 p.m. ET.
