Nearly six months after it was supposed to premiere in theaters, the live action remake of Mulan was made available to stream on Disney Plus beginning on Sept. 4. The film was originally slated for a March 27 release, and then a July 23 debut, but after theaters were shut down due to the coronavirus pandemic, Disney announced that Mulan would instead exclusively come out for Disney+ subscribers.

While many Disney+ account holders were thrilled at the idea of getting new content, Mulan is, for now, only available for those who pay an additional $29.99. Though this price is still cheaper than paying for a family to go to a movie theatre, users were upset that they would have to shell out more money in addition to the $6.99 they pay per month for the streaming service.

Is there a limit on how many times you can watch Mulan on Disney Plus? Details on what the extra cost provides subscribers.

How many times can you watch 'Mulan' on Disney+?

According to the Disney Plus website, once you purchase the live action remake of Mulan, there is no limit on how many times you can watch the film. While some users were concerned that the $29.99 fee was a rental one, it does actually allow subscribers the ability to download the film, and to watch it anywhere where they can log onto their Disney Plus accounts. Purchasing the movie gives subscribers "Premier Access," which allows them to view it months before it is made available for free.

But, if you only got a Disney Plus subscription to purchase Mulan, or if you decide to get rid of your account in the future, you will lose access to watching it. The unrestricted viewing of the movie is only available for active Disney Plus subscribers.

So, if you thought you could get away with paying for one month of Disney Plus and then downloading Mulan on your various devices for your future viewing convenience, you are out of luck.

Why do you have to pay to watch 'Mulan'?

With an estimated $200 million budget to produce the 2020 remake and with theaters closed down for the foreseeable future, Disney Plus is hoping that viewers will look beyond the $29.99 price tag to give themselves and their loved ones access to a new movie.

The April of 2020 digital release of Trolls: World Tour made $100 million without a widespread theater release, proving that there is still a demand for users to get a new movie experience. But, the second film in the Trolls franchise only cost users $19.99 to stream, and it was without a baseline subscription fee.

The premier access offer for Mulan is only around until Nov. 2, 2020, because the movie will eventually be available to stream for no additional cost. Mulan will be added to Disney Plus for all subscribers beginning on Dec. 4, 2020.

The live action remake of Mulan is now available to stream on Disney Plus for $29.99 (interested users must also have an account with the streaming service). The 1998 animated version of the film is also on Disney Plus.
