Rudy Giuliani has been a public figure for decades. He was once a valorized mayor of New York, and now works in and around the Trump White House. As it turns out, Rudy isn't the only member of his family currently working for the president. His son, Andrew Giuliani, works inside the White House as a Sports Liaison, although how he wound up with that job is not entirely clear.

Who is Rudy Giuliani's son, Andrew?

Andrew, who is currently 34, is the son of Donna Hanover, Rudy's second wife. Donna served as the first lady of New York, and she also had a daughter with Rudy named Caroline. Andrew went to Duke University and aspired to become a professional golfer. He was eventually cut from the Duke team, and later sued the coach, claiming that the coach had manufactured accusations against him in order to cut him.

After he graduated from Duke, Andrew worked as a sales intern and appeared a couple of times on the Golf Channel. After that, he became a part of the Trump White House, which is when a controversy began to brew around him.

What does Andrew do at the White House?

Andrew's official title in the White House is Special Assistant to the President and Associate Director of the Office of Public Liaison. The Office of Public Liaison is charged with managing the president's relationship with the public. In Andrew's role, he acts largely as a liaison to the sports community, which means that he helps coordinate the visits of sports teams to the White House. For this, he is paid upwards of $90,000 per year.

Normally, championship teams from collegiate and professional leagues make visits to the White House, but under the Trump administration, these visits have often been controversial. Some teams that normally would have received invites did not, and others declined to come to the White House in spite of receiving invitations.

Rudy insists that Andrew wasn't hired just because of who his parents are.

In speaking with The Atlantic, Rudy said that his son had a relationship with Trump that was separate from his. “He’s known the president since he was a baby,” Rudy said. “Now, did he know him in the first place because he was the mayor’s son? Sure, but they also had a relationship independent of me.” Another source also said that Andrew isn't involved in politics, and is "just having a nice time."

Andrew Giuliani volunteered for the Trump campaign, and often plays golf with the president.

In a 2018 interview with Axios, Andrew said that he has a close relationship with the president. “The president has been there for me, for the good times, but more importantly through the bad,” Andrew said at the time. “That’s just the kind of man he is. I’m grateful that he’s always been willing to give me his advice on personal matters and I consider him to be my good friend and even a father figure. His family is my family.”
