When I was a kid and living off fast food almost every other day (I was not a healthy kid growing up), one of my go-to's was chicken nugget meals from Wendy's. Of course, that was when one of my middle school friends told me something they'd heard about Wendy's once. He'd heard a rumor from somewhere that Wendy's uses spider legs in their chicken nuggets. I never actually believed him, but I always remembered that every time I had those nuggets from then on and wondered if my friend had a point.
If that was the weirdest thing I'd ever seen or heard of about Wendy's chicken products, I wouldn't have been surprised. But life has a funny way of reminding you about the weird parts of your life by showing you something just as weird if not weirder.
This man showed off his hollow chicken patty from his Wendy's sandwich.
In a viral TikTok shared in late September 2023, Aaron Taylor (@aarontaylor241) showed off one of the weirdest things we've ever seen from a fast-food restaurant. At the time of recording, Aaron's mother had apparently just come back from a trip to Wendy's.
She'd gotten a chicken sandwich from the fast-food joint and brought it home. The mom then reportedly put it in the microwave to heat it up. What happened next may just shock you.
According to Aaron, the chicken patty was hollow after he took it out of the microwave. He even cut it open to provide physical evidence.
Sure enough, the sandwich was practically empty inside. Save for a thin layer of meat left over on the breading, there was hardly any chicken with the chicken patty to be found.
Aaron seemed to suggest that this only happened after the sandwich came out of the microwave. We're not sure if the patty was always like that or if the microwave all but vaporized the meat inside, but it's a strange look either way.
Needless to say, other TikTokers were perturbed by Aaron's findings. It's one thing to find strange things in your food or a strange look to it, at the very least. But the fact that Aaron found practically nothing in his patty has caused even more concern.
One person simply commented, "Wendy's lost me. I'll never go there anymore."
Another TikToker joked, "Now they are going to have warnings on packages that say 'Do not microwave.'"
One person even suggested that the same thing happened to them with a Perdue chicken patty. If nothing else, it would appear as if hollow chicken filets and patties are some sort of not-uncommon business practice.
After seeing this, would you still go to Wendy's? At the very least, you can check out other options to avoid the chicken or lack thereof.
