In the entertainment industry, it’s normal for fellow A-listers to make Hollywood their dating playground. After all, dating someone who understands the industry, strict schedules, and navigating the public eye can make for a more leveled relationship. That said, those relationships are no stranger to their own problems.
Brandy, aka The Vocal Bible, has been in the headlines over the past few weeks amid rumors of relationships. And while she made it a point to set the record straight, the iconic singer made a nod to her new memoir in the process. That said, she’s back in the headlines again, highlighting the fact that she had a relationship with Boyz II Men singer Wanya Morris, and it’s quite scandalous. Here’s the full scoop.

Why is Brandy and Wanya Morris’s past relationship problematic?
Whew! Although the late Aaliyah beautifully sang that “Age ain’t nothing but a number,” age is an important factor that should be a non-negotiable while dating. And now, Brandy is speaking her truth about a romance she had while underage.
In a post shared by The Shade Room, the outlet reveals that Brandy has decided to open up about dating Wanya while she was 16. In her memoir, Phases, the now-47-year-old revealed that the romance initially kicked off while they were working on the iconic track, “Brokenhearted,” which Wanya featured on.

From the traditional friends-to-lovers transition, the pair were smitten, but she admits that she bit off more than she could chew in that regard.
“I was in over my head,” she wrote. “But it wasn’t just about upsetting — or disappointing — my parents. Wanya and I understood, with diamond-cut clarity, that public knowledge of our relationship would ignite scandal, potentially threatening everything we’d both worked for, so he and I opted for elaborate fiction: we would pretend patience and claim we were waiting until my 18th birthday before pursuing any romantic connection.”
Interestingly, Brandy admitted that she ended up losing her virginity to Wanya, who was in his early twenties at the time. And as expected, she often resorted to lying and sneaking around her parents in order to spend time with him.

Not to mention, she mentioned that Wanya played down the relationship, and instead referred to her as a “schoolgirl crush.” However, it was much more than that. She claims that not only did Wanya cheat on her, which brought the relationship to a close, but there were also several red flags she missed throughout their time together.
Wanya Morris has been tight-lipped about Brandy’s claims in her memoir.
It’s no secret that dating an underage person is ethically and morally wrong. It’s also illegal. And in this day and age, not only will this not fly, but the older party can find themselves spending time behind bars.
That said, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Wanya has been quiet since news of his romance with Brandy was revealed via her memoir. However, it should be noted that Wanya did admit to having a relationship with Brandy during a 2014 interview with The Breakfast Club.
"We did the thing when she was 16, 17, around that time," Wanya said. "I wasn't old. I wasn't 38 years old or anything like that. She was old enough to get it."
With that in mind, Wanya may address Brandy's claims through his team. Either way, the court of public opinion is ripping him a new one, via The Shade Room post.
“20, 25, 40, 50 years ago….doesn’t matter! The truth is the truth! That's predatory and it was dead wrong for all ADULTS involved,” one person shared.
“It’s never OK for a 22-year-old to date a 16-year-old. Yes, times were different, but it’s NOT OK,” one person shared.
The next few days on social media will definitely be interesting.
