'Teen Mom' Star Amber Portwood's Missing Fiancé Was Found — So What Happened Exactly?

For most Teen Mom fans, drama surrounding longtime cast member Amber Portwood is nothing new. However, when her fiancé Gary Wayt was reported missing following the news of their engagement, it still sent shock waves throughout the fandom. Many were left wondering what happened to Amber's fiancé and what led to her filing a missing person report.

What happened to Amber Portwood's fiancé Gary Wayt?

On June 11, 2023, the Bryson City Police Department in Bryson City, NC shared a Facebook post announcing Gary as a missing person in the area. He was Last seen on June 9, and Amber reported him missing after they reportedly had an argument in their rental cabin and Gary left the house with his keys and wallet, but left behind his cell phone.

While the internet ran wild with theories and snide comments regarding Amber and her colorful history with relationships, not much else about her fiancé's disappearance was released to the public at that time.

Then, a few days after Gary was reported missing, the Bryson City Police Department shared an update to the original post about Gary and added, "Gary Wayt has been located. No further information available at this time. Case is closed."

What did Amber Portwood say about Gary Wayt missing?

Directly after she filed the report, Amber remained silent about what happened. But it didn't take long for her to share details about the incident, and what happened between her and Gary that led to him walking out.

"There was not a big blowout fight or anything like that, OK?" Amber shared during a June 11 live stream on the YouTube channel Ell Bee. "He is a missing person right now. Everything has been told to all the police officers [and] everyone is looking for him. I am praying for anybody [to] see him, nobody has found him or heard from him yet. They only know that he was in a Walgreens alone on camera and that is all that we know."

She added that there was "no explosive argument" that led to Gary leaving, but instead an "emotional" discussion about their differences in cultures, as Gary is from a Vietnamese family. She also said that neither of them "touch each other in any horrible way," when asked if something happened to lead to Gary missing after he left his phone behind. According to Amber, there was no ongoing animosity between them, and she wanted her supporters to pray for him and to not "make up stories" regarding what happened.

Who is Gary Wayt on 'Teen Mom: The Next Chapter'?

Amber introduced Gary to her Teen Mom: The Next Chapter co-stars in a Zoom call in an episode that aired shortly before Gary was reported missing. According to the show's timeline, Gary has yet to meet Amber's daughter Leah, but Amber's relationship with Leah is certainly complicated enough without introducing her daughter to a new man in her life.

Outside of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter, Gary doesn't seem to have much of a social media presence. Or, he prefers to keep his accounts private and hidden, which is understandable as the significant other of someone in the public eye.

According to Us Weekly, however, a source explained that Gary is very close to his family and even takes care of his parents. So the "discussion" Amber mentioned about Gary's parents and his Vietnamese background might have been a hot button topic for both of them. Now, however, it looks like everything (maybe even including the relationship) is behind them.
