Jessa Duggar Recalls Giving Birth to Baby No. 3 on Her Family Room Couch

On the 10th season of Counting On, Jessa Duggar (her married name is Jessa Seewald, but she’ll always be a Duggar to us) announced that she’s pregnant with her third child.

Naturally, viewers want to know what Jessa is having, and because reality TV shows are typically filmed months before they air, fans have already met her newest addition via social media!

The 26-year-old and her husband, Ben Seewald, welcomed daughter Ivy Jane on May 26. The little girl joins big brothers Spurgeon Elliot, 3, and Henry Wilberforce, 2.

In a special episode of Counting On, Jessa revealed that the unplanned home birth — she ended up delivering Ivy on a couch — threw the reality TV family for a loop. 

"Our birth plan through this whole pregnancy was that we would deliver at a birthing suite at the hospital with a midwife there," she explained. But the couple knew they had to act fast when Jessa’s water broke 10 days early.

Because their midwife had left town that morning, the duo sought out another one to help with Jessa’s third home birth. "It was a very special moment meeting our third baby for the first time," Ben shared after the delivery, which was captured on camera. 

The TLC star was supposed to give birth around June 5, but Ivy arrived more than a week before her due date. Most of the Duggars were out of town at the time. 

"Hoping that she’ll wait until we get there before she has that baby," mom Michelle said as her son Josiah flew her back to Arkansas from Knoxville, Tenn. in one of the family’s planes. 

Unfortunately, the matriarch didn’t make it back in time because Jessa began pushing just three hours after she started laboring. The young mom also had to be transported to the hospital due to excessive bleeding, but she was cleared by doctors the next day.

"Welcoming Ivy into our lives, we’re just so excited for the days ahead," Jessa said of her little "miracle," who weighed 7 pounds, 14 ounces at birth.

Even with her trip to the ER, this home birth proved to be much easier for Jessa than the first one. The brunette beauty was in labor for nearly 48 hours with son Spurgeon. "It was very intense, very long," she said at the time. "Everything was different than I expected."

Sadly, just two weeks after Ivy’s arrival, her great-grandmother Mary Duggar — with whom she shared a birthday — passed away unexpectedly. "She was so excited about the many new great-grandbabies due this coming fall and winter, and it never got old for her," the Duggars wrote on their website. 

"She welcomed each new baby with joy and would hold them with such tenderness and delight. We will keep her stories and memories alive for these little ones, but we’re sad that they will not have the blessing of knowing her in person as we have."
