Netflix just proved that not all TV show promotions are created equal. Sure, any old slob could create internet banner ads and send out email blasts about a new show, but it takes a true visionary to promote something that'll generate genuine surprise and that ties into what the show is about.
So the streaming giant decided that the best way to promote its new show, "Disjointed" which stars Kathy Bates playing a woman who's living out her dreams of opening a dispensary, was to release their own strains of marijuana.
Yes. Really. I mean it's 2017, but, it sounds like something you'd only joke about, not actually do.
And Netflix is really doing it. From this Friday to Sunday at the West Hollywood Pop-Up shop at Alternative Health Herbal Services, tokers will be able to snatch up a variety of marijuana strains that are directly inspired by some of Netflix's most popular shows. Sorry, that's the only place you can officially get it folks, so if you're not in or around LA, or willing to take the trip, you're out of luck. Well, at least when it comes to getting it legally.
The press release states: "each strain was cultivated with the specific shows in mind, designed to complement each title based on their tone. For example, sillier shows may be more indica dominant, while dramedies will be more sativa dominant to help the more powerful scenes resonate."
Meaning that yes, much like a sommelier would pair wine to go with meals, Netflix has hand-crafted pot to enhance the viewing of each particular series.
"Disjointed" has three of its own strains: Rutherford B. Haze, Eve's Bush, and the Omega Strain. But other popular shows get their own flavors too, with tongue-in-cheek descriptions that provide references to each show.
"Bojack Horseman" - Prickly Muffin. When you smoke this, it gets a little easier. But you gotta do it everyday.
"Arrested Development" - Banana Stand Kush, for when you want a big yellow joint.
"Chelsea" - Vodkush, for the advanced botanist stoner.
"Grace and Frankie" - Peyotea 73, for an uplifting sativa hybrid.
"Lady Dynamite" - Sassafrass OG, packs the power of a thousand pug snorts.
"Santa Clarita Diet" - Baka Bile to really ramp up your appetite.
"Orange is the New Black" - Poussey Riot for kicking it with somebody, talking, making mad stupid jokes.
"Mystery Science Theater 3000" - Moon 13 is not too strong, so you can ‘keep your sanity, no robot friends required.
The idea may be unconventional, but people seem to be really digging them.
Would you try it? (h/t variety)
