Funny bar signs are basically a subcultural phenomenon, and boy, a good one can really make your day.
Some of the signs can be edgy and suggestive at times.
But as the Ribs and Bibs restaurant in Belfast, Ireland discovered recently, there's a difference between edgy and insensitive. A discovery they made the hard way when they posted this sign that advertised a £5 lunch deal which seemingly made fun of domestic abuse.
The sign reads:
"Ya can beat the wife, but ya can't beat a 5 pound lunch!"
Unsurprisingly, people on social media expressed their "disgust" with the sign.
Others got very real about how serious of an issue domestic violence is.
The restaurant says that they don't know which employee wrote the joke on the sign, but that when they find who it is, they're going to be fired. RTibs and Bibs owner, Malachy Turner said in an interview with The Mirror that it was probably a junior member of the staff that will be "dismissed immediately."
"I 100% condemn domestic violence and this sign. It is not something I would joke about. I couldn't believe it when I saw it - it is not funny and I apologise to anyone upset by it."
