"I Felt a Little Brainwashed," Says Deavan Clegg About a Previous Relationship
'90 Day Fiancé' Star Deavan Clegg now claims that her ex-partner regularly subjected her to acts of physical and mental abuse. Read on for more.
"He didn't seem sketchy at all," Deavan Clegg describes her first impressions of now ex-boyfriend and father of her daughter, Drascilla, in a recently uploaded YouTube video titled "Opening Up About My Abusive Relationship UNCUT."
As the star of Season 1 of 90 Day Fiancé: The Other Way explains, her ex-partner started to act strange about three months into the relationship.
'90 Day Fiancé' star Deavan Clegg claims she was abused by her ex-boyfriend.
As Deavan explains in the video, she met her ex-boyfriend through mutual friends. Unfortunately, she doesn't mention his real name, using an alias, Tom, instead.
There were several red flags, she now claims. Her ex-boyfriend was unemployed, and he also struggled with substance abuse issues.
Problems began to emerge about three months into the relationship. As Deavan explains, he became so jealous one night that he demanded to read all of her text messages.
"I've never experienced [this] before, and I didn't know how to take it," Deavan explains in the video.
As she explains, these behaviors had gotten even worse over time. Eventually, her ex-boyfriend set up a new password to her phone, leaving her unable to access her correspondences without his supervision.
"I felt a little brainwashed at the time, because I really thought I loved him," Deavan adds later on in the video.
"I wasn't allowed to talk to my friends and if his band members came over I wasn't allowed to be in a room alone with them [...]. I just wasn't allowed to do things [...] I wasn't allowed to go hang out with girlfriends, I wasn't allowed to go see my family," she adds.
"If I was to go somewhere, he would have to go with me," she says.
As Deavan explains, she soon became the sole breadwinner for the household. On at least one occasion, he stole money from her to spend it on illegal substances, she alleges in the video.
About three to four months into the relationship, her ex-boyfriend became physically abusive, Deavan alleges in the video. As she added, her mother eventually noticed the warning signs, asking her to move back home — which she did.
Unfortunately, this didn't put an end to the relationship. Deavan stayed with her partner for much longer, and at one point, she ended up moving to his parents' house.
"It was almost every day was like that where I would come home and he would hit my legs, he would hit my body, he would scream things [...] he just would not stop." she added.
In the video, she claims that she doesn't remember how she got pregnant with Drascilla.
"Like I said, I wasn't having relations with him. He was having a party on New Year's Eve and I wanted to go. And I don't drink [...] but I remember at this party [...] I just hated him so much that I wanted to make him mad" she explains.
"I ended up [drinking a lot] to the point where I blacked out. I'd be lying if I said I remember what happened, but I don't," she adds.
