Update: On Sept. 30, the Gremlin gave his first and only performance on The Masked Singer with Ben E. King's "Stand By Me." Afterwards, complaining of the heat in the costume, actor Mickey Rourke removed his mask and revealed that he was the voice behind the Gremlin. Keep reading to see who fans initially predicted.

Now that it's returned, The Masked Singer Season 4 is providing fans with a great distraction from everything terrible around them. The show has unveiled a lineup of celebrities, hidden under elaborate masks, and the internet is doing its best to try and figure out who is under each one. One of the biggest mysteries of the season is the Gremlin, who didn't offer viewers a ton of information to work with.

What hints do we have about Gremlin's identity on 'The Masked Singer'?

Since the competition is only in its second week, we don't have a ton of information to base our guesses on each singer's real identity. The most concrete hint is "I can thrive when the temperature is a cool 66.5 degrees." The Gremlin also described their personality as "playful" and their life as "chaotic," but that doesn't give viewers a ton of information to work with.

Given this limited information, the guesses have understandably been all over the place about what Gremlin's real identity is. Still, there are several theories that seem to carry more weight than others, and it's very possible that the smart people on Reddit and other platforms have already figured out who's behind the mask.

What guesses do fans have about Gremlin's identity on 'The Masked Singer'?

Howie Mandel — The most popular guess as to the Gremlin's identity is definitely Howie Mandel. The theory comes from Reddit, and is based mostly on the fact that Howie was the voice of Gizmo in both Gremlins and Gremlins 2. Howie feels like an obvious contender for that reason, although the timing may not work out with his work on America's Got Talent, which just ended its season.

Vanilla Ice — The clue about functioning well at temperatures below 66.5 degrees has some wondering if Vanilla Ice is the person behind the Gremlin mask. 66.5 degrees is the temperature of the Arctic Circle, which is made of ice, and may be a reference to his stage name.

Member of 98 Degrees — Some have also suggested that the temperature reference could be some sort of play on 98 Degrees, the popular boy band from the '90s.

Fans will learn more after Gremlin takes the stage.

These fan guesses are entirely plausible, but they may not ultimately be proven accurate. Ultimately, fans of The Masked Singer are likely to have much more information about Gremlin after he takes the stage tonight. We've already learned that the Dragon was rapper Busta Rhymes, and fans are trying to track down every clue they can about the identity of the rest of the contestants.

The Masked Singer is such a fun watch in part because there's so much theorizing that goes with the show. The contestants could be anyone, and some Redditors and other people online are deeply committed to unearthing every clue they can about each singer. Sometimes, the show leads them down one path only to swerve, and ultimately reveal that the singer is someone else entirely. The Gremlin could still be a huge number of people, even though fans have some initial guesses.
