Nintendo's long-awaited follow-up to Breath of the Wild is finally available on the Nintendo Switch. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom follows Link after the previous game's events, making it a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild. Here's what to know about the game.

When does 'Tears of the Kingdom' take place?

While the exact time period isn't entirely clear, the events of Tears of the Kingdom reportedly take place after Breath of the Wild. Nintendo has not yet disclosed how many years it's been since Zelda and Link locked away Calamity Ganon, but Tears of the Kingdom is meant to be a sequel to the previous game.

Though some theorized that Tears of the Kingdom is actually a prequel, Nintendo has confirmed it is a sequel. Its place in the overall Legend of Zelda timeline, however, is still up for debate.

Will there be dungeons in 'Tears of the Kingdom'?

There were various theories flying around that Tears of the Kingdom would include dungeons, and it seems as though there are four different dungeons Link can explore in the new game. This is a few less than many were hoping to see, though in addition to these dungeons, Nintendo also brought back the Shrines in Hyrule.

Is 'Tears of the Kingdom' available on any platform other than the Switch?

Unfortunately, those who do not have a Nintendo Switch will not be able to play Tears of the Kingdom, as the game is exclusive to Nintendo's consoles. Though some have pirated the title to run on the Steam Deck, these are not legal copies of the game.
